Is there anyone out there who doesn’t think the media is a problem these days? I do miss the days of reading newspapers because there were so many inaccuracies and misstatements, it was fun just to search them out and have a laugh or two. Now if we want to read a newspaper you got to go online and sign up for their website, fill out a form with all of your information, and agree to accept all the crappy spam they decide to send you. Then they can and will sell your information to damn near anyone. In the past I’ve made a lot of fun of the written media only because there’s so much information out there that’s worth a laugh or three. Apparently, the worst job you can have in written media is being an editor. It’s also apparent from the information I’ve been reading that if they have editors, they aren’t all that bright. Here’s a short selection of headlines from newspapers and I cannot believe any alleged editors were doing their job. Here we go . . .

  • Statistics Show That Mortality Increases Perceptively in the Military During Wartime What editor in his right mind let this one slip through?
  • Two Sisters Reunited After 18 Years in Checkout Counter Unbelievable!!!
  • Safety Experts Say School Bus Passengers Should Be Belted We live in a time of geniuses.
  • NJ Judge to Rule on Nude Beach I wonder if he’s required to wear a robe for that.
  • Never Withhold Herpes from Loved One There some good dating advice . . . NOT!

  • Eye Drops Off Shelf OMG!
  • If Strike Isn’t Settled Quickly It May Last a While Another Rhodes scholar.
  • Smokers Are Productive, But Death Cuts Efficiency Thanks to the tobacco lobby for this one.
  • Dirty-Air Cities Far Deadlier than Clean Ones, Study Shows Another genius observation.
  • Fish Lurk in Streams This might be great for a Bass Pro Shop logo.

Over the years and after many mergers the Mainstream Media has become an arm of the corporations that seem to have their fingers into everything. It’s become painfully clear that many media types have become TV stars in their own right. You would think that those under public scrutiny would be more careful than most about the articles and headlines they post or print. I guess that folks who control what we see and read could at times be less than careful. To prove my point read these wonderfully lame and stupid headlines that made their way through writers and editors to amuse and annoy the rest of us.

This kind of carelessness is unbelievable. Lots of people are being paid lots of money to create these ridiculous headlines. Hopefully going forward the newspapers and websites will at least make some effort to stop the madness.

I’m a huge critic of the media but at the same time I try to remain fair in that criticism, Truthfully, I hate them all.  When this government of ours was created the Media was to be a watchdog on those politicians known for being corrupt and wasteful with our tax dollars.  The process begins to breakdown once the Media becomes a tool of the government.  You can see it now with Obama putting the Media through it’s paces with little or no criticism of any wrongdoing.  They worship the ground he walks on and it’s pitiful. I think the turning point was reached when all of the largest newspapers and Media outlets were purchased by corporate America.  It’s was a “Kiss of Death” to our democracy as it was meant to be.

The Media has the luxury of editing and reporting only those things that agree with their political agendas as directed by the corporate bosses.  The good quality journalists have become extinct and are only talked about around the water coolers of the surviving newsgroups. What we have now are over educated talking heads who are news readers rather than investigative reporters.  The following list is humorous but at the same time just reinforces my thoughts on the subject.

How do you like these idiotic headlines written by alleged reporters, edited by alleged editors, and published as shown.  Unbelievable is the word your looking for.  Here we go.

11-01-2013 Stupid Headlines   2 comments

I remember growing up in a time when newspapers ruled the world. Nothing was true unless it was in the paper and each morning people scrambled for the morning news.  It was a time when two deliveries of a newspaper was the norm, the morning edition at 6am and another delivered in the early evening. I had an up close and personal  relationship with our daily paper, The Valley Daily News, because I was one of it’s part-time carriers.  I always felt so damn important as I made my rounds delivering the latest news to all of my friends and neighbors.  For me it was a big deal.

I can still remember rushing to the pile of papers as they were tossed off the delivery truck to catch a quick peek at the day’s headlines.  It was exciting for a dumb kid like me to be the first to get the scoop of the day.

The quality of the writing seemed much more professional then than some of the stuff I’m reading these days.   In my humble opinion our improved technologies and the birth of the Internet have brought the quality of articles and headlines to a very low level.  The daily barrage of news these days wears on a person.  It’s a constant drumbeat 24 hours a day and it’s annoying as well as redundant.

Back in the day writing was a serious profession and the writing of headlines was almost as important as the articles themselves.  I offer for your amusement the following collection of  headlines from recent years and various newspapers.  Not only do the headlines suck but the editor’s who allowed them to be sent to print should be ashamed.  Here we go.
