12/01/2022 “School Days”   Leave a comment

I was never in high school during the 1950’s.  I just wanted to be clear on that point because I was in then what is now called Middle School.  To say there are differences between now and the fifties is the hugest understatement you will ever hear.  As I’ve mentioned many times in the past, political correctness is responsible for accelerating that change. This article was initially posted in 2010 but I’ve updated it somewhat. Here are a few hypothetical scenarios showing the differences between then and now.  When you first read them, you might think the scenarios are exaggerated to make a point.  If you really look at it honestly you can also see how exaggerated, they aren’t.

* * *

Scenario 1

Jack goes quail hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck’s gun rack.

1957 – Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack’s shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.

2022 – School goes into immediate lock down, FBI and media are alerted, Jack is hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors are called for all of the traumatized students and teachers. Media interviews replayed for days.

Scenario 2

Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.

1957 – A crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.

2022 – Teachers alert the police, and the SWAT team arrives only moments before the Media — Johnny and Mark are arrested. They’re both charged with assault and expelled even though Johnny started it. The Media interviews experts on how to control the terrible violence in schools and they are replayed on numerous stations across the country.

Scenario 3

Jeffrey will not be quiet and well-behaved in class; he disrupts other students.

1957 – Jeffrey is sent to the Principal’s office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt the class again.

2022 – Jeffrey is immediately tested for ADD and given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie like creature. The family then applies to SSI, and Jeffrey is labeled “disabled”. The monthly government checks begin to arrive. The Media does a three-night special on the networks concerning the national pandemic of ADD and praises the benefits of Ritalin.

Scenario 4

Billy breaks a window in his neighbor’s car and his dad gives him a whipping with his belt.

1957 – Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman.

2022 – Neighbor’s immediately call the police. Billy’s dad is arrested for child abuse; Billy is removed to a foster care facility for evaluation. He soon joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy’s sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy’s mom then has an affair with the psychologist and makes a guest appearance on the Jerry Springer Show. Film at eleven!

Scenario 5

Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.

1957 – Mark shares his aspirin with a friend who also has a headache, and he feels much better.

2022 – Teachers immediately call police, and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations (zero tolerance). His car is then searched for drugs and weapons. Media proclaims continued drug problems in the school systems and Oprah Winfrey does a two-hour special.

Scenario 6

Pedro fails high school English.

1957 – Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and then goes to college.

2022 – Teachers are concerned for Pedro and his cause is taken up by the state authorities. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files a class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro’s English teacher. English is then banned from the core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he can’t speak English.

Scenario 7

Johnny takes leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July and puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a nest of red ants.

1957 – Ants die.

2022 – ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called in. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism for mishandling explosives. The FBI investigates his parents – and all his siblings are removed from their home and all computers confiscated. Johnny’s dad is placed on a terrorism watch list and is never allowed to fly again. Protesters and morons picket the family home because they are against domestic terrorism. A dangerous traffic jam is created by all of the Media vans attempting to get a little face time on camera.

Scenario 8

Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.

1957 –In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.

2022 – Other teachers and Johnny’s parents accuse Mary of being a sexual predator and she loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison and when released becomes a well-educated street walker. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy and drugs and eventually finds God, shaves his head, and is now working full-time at the airport playing a tambourine.

Do you honestly think I exaggerated a bit?  Some of this is certainly tongue-in-cheek but a lot of it isn’t. I’m glad of two things; one is that I’m not a kid attending school these days, and secondly, that my children would have been taught by me the basics on how to best survive liberal academics and their constant propagandizing.

04/26/2022 Dumb Ass Day II   Leave a comment

I was watching Peacock Network last night and made the mistake of tuning in a show where Snoop Dog and three moron friends reviewed videos of stupid people, both criminal and criminally stupid. Between all of the F-Bombs and gratuitous crap about weed, I was bored to tears. So today I’ll give you my written version of that and nary an F-Bomb will be heard. Stream this Doggy boy!

R.C. Gaitlin, 21, walked up to two patrol officers who were showing their squad car computer equipment to children in a Detroit neighborhood. When he asked how the system worked, the officers asked him for a piece of identification. Gaitlin gave them his driver’s license, they entered it into the computer, and moments later they arrested Gaitlin because information on the screen showed that Gaitlin was wanted for a two-year-old armed robbery in St. Louis, Missouri.

The judge called the case of People vs. Steven Lewon Crook. The bailiff opened the door to the holding cell and called, “Crook, come forward.” Five of the prisoners entered the courtroom.

In Springfield, Mo. Vernon Wayne Richmond, 18, stood up in court to give the details of his crime as part of a plea bargain to cocaine possession. Richmond said he found cocaine, put it in his pocket, and then was arrested by police after a Wal-Mart guard detained him. Unfortunately, Richmond had misunderstood which of his cases the plea was for. Actually, the district attorney was prosecuting him for an earlier arrest for having cocaine in his car and was unaware of the Wal-Mart arrest.

In Annapolis, Md., during a celebration of Gregory Johnson’s 32nd birthday, his cousin Darwin Derwood Coates, 21, tucked a .22-caliber handgun into the waistband of his trousers and accidentally shot himself in the groin. As guests tried to assist Coates, Johnson relieved him of the gun and stuck it in the most convenient place he could find, which was the waistband of his own trousers. The gun fired again, striking Johnson in the buttocks. Both men were hospitalized.

02/27/2022 Go Sarah!   Leave a comment

Right after I awoke this morning, I got online and was watching a blurb from one of Sarah Silverman’s podcasts. I’ve always been a fan of Silverman and I appreciate her views on a lot of subjects and love her comedy. She was talking briefly about being taken to task by Paris Hilton for some jokes made a number of years ago when Hilton seemed to be on every TV, every hour, and was just annoying as she could be. Sarah doesn’t need me to defend her because she’s more than capable of doing that job all by herself. I just thought I’d make a few comments of my own and exercise my Freedom of Speech. Please Ms. Hilton, “Shut the hell up”. I’m certain you will make sure you get as much media coverage as you can now that you’re a reformed celebrity and a wife. I’d better not see any honeymoon videos accidently released to the media as has happened a few times in the past. Just to let everyone know how I really see her, read a few of her ridiculous pearls of wisdom she insisted on sharing with the world.

  • “Every woman should have four pets in her life. A mink in her closet, a jaguar in her garage, a tiger in her bed, and a jackass who pays for everything.”
  • There’s nobody in the world like me. I think every decade has an iconic blonde, like Marilyn Monroe or Princess Diana and, right now, I’m that icon.”
  • “I don’t think there’s ever been anyone like me that’s lasted.”
  • “I hate when a guy brags … or he sweats.”

02-04-2014 Home-Grown Know-It-All’s!   Leave a comment

If your experiences in life are anything like mine have been there’s always someone available to offer advice, both good and bad.  Usually without you even asking.  Every one thinks they’re some kind of philosopher and never hesitate to show you just how smart they think they are.  It can be annoying as hell but every once in a while the proverbial blind man can find that pearl of wisdom.  Unfortunately you’ll probably be forced to listen to a few dozen inane and stupid statements to get to the one that would really mean something.

My father and grandfather’s had an endless supply of what they thought were inspirational messages. “Don’t pee or spit into the wind.” and “Don’t tug on Superman’s cape.” immediately come to mind.  A special thanks to Jim Croce for supplying my Dad with that one.

I began looking around the Net for more material on this subject but was soon overwhelmed with possibilities.  Some of the following messages and quotes, and thoughts came from celebrities, politicians, and as always my favorite, Anonymous.  I’ve removed the names of the authors because it the message that counts not who wrote it.  You should be able to figure a few of them out if you give it some thought.  Here we go.

  • “Some days you’re the dog, some days you’re the hydrant.”
  • ”The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.”
  • ”It’s hard to make a comeback when you haven’t been anywhere.”
  • ”Your garbage disposal eats better than 30% of the people in this world.”
  • ”Isn’t having a smoking section in a restaurant like having a peeing section in a swimming pool?”
  • ”Never do card tricks for your poker buddies.”
  • ”To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research.
  • Beware of the toes you step on today. They could be attached to the ass you may have to kiss tomorrow.”
  • “Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That’s relativity.”
  • “The only normal people are the ones that you don’t know very well.”

  • “What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.”
  • “If you talk to God, you are praying; if God talks to you, you have schizophrenia.”
  • “A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.”
  • “If you want to leave footprints in the sands of time, don’t drag your feet.”
  • “Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.”
  • “The harder you fall, the higher you bounce.”
  • “I prefer to be a pessimist; it makes it easier to deal with my inevitable failure.”
  • “Who is more foolish? The fool or the fool that follows him?”
  • “To be ignorant of one’s ignorance is the malady of the ignorant.”
  • “A boy can learn a lot from a dog: obedience, loyalty, and the importance of turning around three times before lying down.”

  • “If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito.”
  • “Life in Lubbock, Texas, taught me two things: One is that God loves you and you’re going to burn in hell. The other is that sex is the most awful, filthy thing on earth and you should save it for someone you love.”
  • “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are right.”
  • “Never test the depth of the water with both feet.”
  • “Don’t be irreplaceable. If you can’t be replaced, you can’t be promoted.”
  • “If you lend someone $25 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.”
  • “Experience is something you don’t get until just after you need it.”
  • “The difference between erotic and kinky is that one uses a feather, the other uses the whole chicken.”

Pick a few out that you like and memorize them.  That way when you’re  philosophizing for others you’ll have something to impress them with.  You do know we all do it, all of the time, Right?

12-29-2013 New Year’s Resolutions for 2014   Leave a comment

It’s finally time for me to step up and put in writing the things I’m pledging to do at some time in 2014.  I tried to keep these resolutions as reasonable as possible so I at least have a chance to live up to them.  Here they are.

1.  Read five books a month.

2.  Teach the grandson  one curse word per month once he begins talking.

3.  Keep the number of F-bombs below 100 a week.

4.  Drink less brandy than last year but more than next year.

5.  Spend less than $300.00 at Dunkin Donut for the entire year ($25.00 per month).

6.  Stop dancing naked near the picture window in the living room. It scares the neighbors if their complaints mean anything at all.

7.  Fight to my last breath to keep chickens and goats from becoming part of my life.

I could have listed a few more but why set myself up for complete and utter failure.  I did that last year and I should be learning from my past mistakes, you’d think.

* * *

I tried to convince my better-half to give me her list for 2014 but I ran into a brick wall.  She appears to be a believer of never putting anything in writing regardless of who makes the request.  I even tried intimidating her a little.  I attempted to make her comply by threatening to post a few crazy resolutions and tell the world they came from her.  I won’t repeat her reply since I do try to keep this blog at a PG rating.  I admit she has a pretty effective way of intimidating me and that will also stay a deep and dark secret.
