Since today is Sunday and a day of rest for many of you, I thought a few miscellaneous items and a little humor might be the thing to do.  It’s a late Summer’s day on a holiday weekend that begins to prepare us for what’s coming, SNOW.

My better-half and I are looking forward to the upcoming Fryeburg Fair which we attend every year. It’s a huge gathering of every farmer and their livestock from across the country.  This year will be the first visit for her new grandson and she can’t wait to drag his little butt there to look at the pigs.  As I’ve mentioned previously my better-half has something of a pig fetish.  We’ll spend between eight and ten hours eating terribly unhealthy food, walking miles and miles through huge crowds, and attending the Pig Scramble and Woodsman contests.  I know it sounds a little lame but it really isn’t.  It’s one of the few things we both enjoy a great deal.

We’re also looking forward to taking hundreds of photographs of the Fall season whose beauty never ceases to amaze.  Actually Fall has slowly over the years become my favorite time of the year.  We’ll have the harvest season, Fall foliage, and many small local fairs to visit on most weekends. You can say what you want but small local fairs are the best. It will again be a great time for our family and friends.

My first item today is a joke I stumbled on recently. It is laugh-out-loud funny and I hope you enjoy it.

In 1986, Mkele Mbembe was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University.

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Mbembe approached it very carefully.

He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant’s foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Mbembe worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.

The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Mbembe stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away.

Mbembe never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty years later, Mbembe was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Mbembe and his son Tapu were standing.

The large bull elephant stared at Mbembe, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man. Remembering the encounter in 1986, Mbembe couldn’t help wondering if this was the same elephant.

Mbembe summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Mbembe’ s legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly .

Probably wasn’t the same elephant.

Today is Ladies Day here at Everyuselessthing.  I know In the past I’ve had a lot of fun with you ladies out there but I’d like to get a little more serious today.  During my normal cruising around the net I discovered that today is what most women would consider a very special day.  I think it’s only fair that the women in this country have more than one day like Mother’s Day to celebrate their femininity.  With that in mind I’m sending out good wishes to all of my female readers and a big HAPPY INTERNATIONAL TIARA DAY.  I’ve included the following blurb I discovered which  explains the origins of this observance and who to blame.  I’m sorry, that must have sounded a little catty and I apologize.

I was surprised a little to discover that’s it’s an "International" observance.  For some reason I thought that this could only be an American thing.  I guess I should have realized that you women folk all would love to have and wear a tiara regardless of what country you live in. As the article explains this observance was created to help every women feel like a princess.  How sweet and somewhat disturbing is that?

So before all of you ladies race off to your local Tiara’s "R" Us, please read along to learn the history of this special, special day, International Tiara Day.

The first International Tiara Day was held on May 24th, 2005 in conjunction with Barbara Bellissimo’s Seasons of Success. In 2009 Lynanne White of American Rose Bridal along with a few of her employees decided everyone should be able to wear a tiara, not just brides. Lynanne researched to see if there was a tiara day. After contacting and receiving permission from Barbara, Lynanne took over International Tiara Day in hopes of helping all women feel like a princess. Lynanne thought May 24th was an appropriate day since it was Queen Victoria’s birthday. We hope to continue this tradition every year. Please help us spread the word.

Now that I’ve properly informed my female readers about this previously unpublicized day it’s back to blog business.  I love listing new followers to this blog along with my special thanks.  Spending time surfing through their blogs is in my opinion time well spent.  They contain a lot of interesting information and diverse writing styles.  Check them out and enjoy them as I do.

Just sitting around today waiting for the next uppercut from Mother Nature who is sending another huge snow storm our way.  I sure hope those alleged weathermen and women are wrong but you know how that goes.  When they say it will be sunny and fair they’re almost always wrong. When they say it will sleet or snow, they’re almost always right.  If we get the 16-24 inches they’re predicting it will be a long few days of snow blowing, shoveling, and waiting for the roads to be cleared.

Yesterday’s posting seems to have struck a nerve in some quarters.  Closest to home my better-half was less than thrilled about being mentioned in what she thought was a somewhat derogatory manner.  I kept trying to explain to her that every time I refer to her in a post, it’s complimentary.  She just doesn’t realize after all of our time together when I ‘m being serious and when I’m being funny.  She’s thinks I should be more careful when discussing our personal life but I just can’t seem to help myself. Our life together is great but at times it’s also hysterically funny. She’s either purposely giving me a bad time or she’s all of a sudden lost her sense of humor. Truthfully I think she’s trying to be sarcastic and hasn’t quite gotten the hang of it yet.  She’s a sarcastic work in progress.

I had a great half hour of meditation this afternoon (as described yesterday) which always makes me feel terrific.  My cat has picked up the habit of climbing onto the meditation platform (couch) while I’m meditating (napping) and stretching out to his full length and purring like crazy.  That tells me he’s found his "happy place" which is probably somewhere near the Portland fish market.  He so loves his seafood.

We both then retired to my man-cave for an hour of tax preparation.  After a great deal of bitching and profanity the cat left in a huff as I finally e-filed my returns. That damn cat’s getting way too sensitive in his old age and needs to lighten up a little. There was a time when he would only respond to "Hey Dumb Ass",  so I just don’t get his recent snotty attitude. I suppose he’s just feeling the "tax time" pressures vicariously through me. Dumb ass cat.

I would also like to send out a quick thank you to a few of my newest followers.  Welcome to the blog that’s just “full of it”. I hope you enjoy your visits here and come back as often as possible.  Thanks go out to: hayleyhobson, happsters, evanstang, puravidaeh, craftedincarhardtt, russelldeasleyhollisplample, and silkroadcollector. If the rest of you get a chance please give their blogs and profiles a look see.  I’m sure you’ll enjoy them as much as I do.

I guess it’s time for me to gas up the snow thrower and begin preparations for the storm that’s scheduled to start sometime early tomorrow.  Winter in Maine is a trip  but  I never said it was always a good trip.
