08-14-2014 A Load of Useless Information!   Leave a comment

th0UCWSW3R

After a little reflection it occurred to me that many of you have heard enough about gardens, canning, and other assorted foolishness I’m involved with. There will certainly be more of that soon enough but not today.

This blog was named Every Useless Thing for a reason.  I love odd facts and facts that aren’t commonly known.  I’ve drifted away from that of late and that needs to be remedied.  I’ve been collecting sources of  useless information for many years and still have a lot to pass on to all you.

As I sit here trying to concentrate I keep praying that this Novocain my dentist shot me full of wears off soon.  I’m afraid to drink any hot coffee for fear of scalding my mouth.  He said it’s effects should pass after an hour or so.  It’s not that I think he doesn’t know what he’s talking about but dammit it’s already been two and half hours.  I‘m sure you’ll be glad to know that after his fine work this morning I’m beautiful again. The world can once again rest easy.

Let’s get to the good stuff.  More things you could care less about unless you hope to win a trivia contest or a few bar bets.

  • In case anyone ever asks, here are the seven Japanese gods of luck:

Bishamon, Daikoku, Ebisu, Fukurokuju, Jurojin

  • Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon using his left foot first.
  • President Andrew Jackson’s pet parrot had to be removed from his funeral in 1845 because it was swearing.
  • Lee Harvey Oswald was dyslexic.
  • Joseph Stalin, whose  left arm was noticeably shorter than his right, also had webbed toes on his left foot.
  • In the eight year period Ronald Reagan was president, the White House bought 12 tons of his favorite jelly beans.

I know you’ve missed this stuff no matter what you tell me.  It just keeps getting more interesting and exciting. (sarcasm off)

  • The difference between a nook and a cranny is that the nook is a corner and the cranny is a crack.
  • Race car is a palindrome.
  • Mick Jagger turned down a 3.5 million pound advance offer on his memoirs from a publisher because, he said, “couldn’t remember” enough significant details from his own life.

  • Virginia Woolf wrote all her books standing up.

All finished, another installment of useless crap has been distributed. Use it at your own risk, it can sometimes piss people off. You’ve been warned.

08-10-2014 Journal Entry – A Birthday Surprise or Two!   4 comments

thM3Q669TD

My last vacation of the summer has ended with the return of my better-half from her recent trip. She arrived late last night and fell into bed exhausted from all of the driving. She was wound pretty tight but dropped into a dead sleep within minutes of her head hitting the pillow. I knew I was in for a blow-by-blow description of the entire trip as soon as I woke up in the morning.  Boy was I ever right.

She was moving kind of slow in the morning but after a couple cups of good strong coffee she finally appeared almost human. I rolled out early myself to get my forty minutes on the treadmill out of the way.  As I came upstairs from the workout she surprised me with a belated birthday gift and a promise of a steak dinner with all the trimmings later on.  I honestly never expected that because I’m not a someone who’s a big birthday celebrator.

We started the day with a food shopping trip to refill the larders.  It was a nice day with sunny skies and warm weather and we thoroughly enjoyed our time together. We made a visit to the local Walmart, purchased a little of everything, and then just wandered around for a while to people watch.  It was then that I began thinking of the dinner she was planning and what I could contribute.

As you’re aware if you read this blog often enough you know I’m a amateur winemaker. When we arrived home I went directly to my wine cellar to find a wine to compliment that beautiful steak she was going to prepare. I’ve been told by many people that homemade fruit wines usually loose their flavor after being bottled for more than two years.  I found a few bottles of a strawberry wine that I made in 2003.  At the time that wine was excellent and laughingly became known as the dancing wine.  If you drank more than two glasses you’d be overwhelmed with the desire to dance your ass off.  After eleven years I wasn’t exactly sure what we’d find.

‘It Was a Very Good Year’

Upon returning home we moved to the deck for an hour of total relaxation slowly sipping on a glass of wine that smelled wonderful and tasted even better.  Two glasses each and we were aglow. I was shocked at how good the wine still was after all of those years in the bottle. We decided to take a short break, fire up the grill, and prepare the food for dinner.  The steak was cooked medium rare and melt-your-mouth tender. Aluminum foil wrapped vegetables from the garden finished the meal off rather nicely.  It was then time for a second bottle which went down even easier than the first.

It was great birthday celebration that was totally unexpected and I can report officially that we both were pleased with the end result. I just love happy endings.

It’s now the morning after and I have another tidbit of information to pass along.  That freaking wine while having excellent taste also brings along with it a mind-numbing hangover. I truthfully think I’m gonna die. Even the good coffee that usually saves the day isn’t working worth a damn. I’ll end this posting now because I need a power nap and a few dozen extra strength Tylenols.

Don’t come to my impending funeral, you’ll be disappointed. Happy Birthday to me.

07-15-2014 Journal Entry – Back to the Woods!   Leave a comment

This has been a week of rain then sunshine then rain and on and on and on. The humidity is constantly high and sleeping is a real challenge. It certainly limits my activities to hanging around the house and driving my better-half over the edge. It must be true because she tells me that at least twice a day. What to do, what to do.  My only solution is to take my camera and go forth to play in the woods.  Maybe it was time for a quick check of my favorite swamps to look in on the dragonfly situation. With this much humidity and heat there should be a large increase in their numbers (I hope).  It’s a reasonably short drive so I loaded up my gear and took off.

DSC_0012

I arrived at the sanctuary, parked the car, and stepped into the world of sweat bees, gnats, and those little mites that congregate around your head by the thousands.  I used half a can of the strongest bug spray I could find and it was of little help.

It’s common practice here in Maine for the horse farmers to cover the eyes of their horses with netting to keep the bugs from driving the horses crazy.  If it works for horses then why can’t it work for me.  I reached into my bag of goodies and found some netting made specifically to be worn over a baseball cap and then tied tightly at the neck.  It’s not a perfect solution but it will keep the gnats in the swamp out of my eyes and ears.  The rest of my body is up for grabs but even those damn mosquitos and ticks have to eat too.  Without a doubt I’ll be their lunch entrée.

DSC_0017

DSC_0058

On my way to the swamp I have to pass through a few acres of milkweed plants. They’re just coming into bloom and in a few short weeks will be covered with visiting Monarch butterflies.  They love laying their eggs on the milkweed plants which contain a chemical that keeps predators from eating their eggs.  I’ll be back in a few weeks for their arrival which promises  a gang of excellent macro photographs.

DSC_0068BLOG

I arrived in the swamp covered with swarms of bugs and discovered to my delight a reasonable number of dragonflies flitting around.  I’ve found if you stand still in one place for a few minutes they tend to approach to check you out. These pictures were of a few that seemed to be purposely posing for me.

DSC_0043BLOG

DSC_0035BLOG

I lasted almost an hour but the bugs made staying any longer impossible. I’ll be better prepared on my next visit and hope to obtain more photos of dragonflies and damselflies.  The variety of colors is absolutely amazing.

***WILDLIFE ALERT ***

(Sarcasm On) This Wildlife Alert arrived on my desk today from my better-half and I promised her I’d put out A BOTA (Be On the Lookout) alert for a herd of those terribly dangerous and ruthless gourd eating deer.  She plans on hanging some sort of crazy noise-maker in the garden to scare them off. Truthfully we’ve had deer eat almost everything in the garden at one time or another but not a single one has ever munched on a gourd.  She has a strange attraction for gourds which I still don’t understand.  Maybe I’ll build a blind for her to sit in near the garden and she can jump out in the middle of the night to scare the crap out of them. I promise to get lots of pictures if she actually does it. (Sarcasm Off)

07-11-2014 My Relationship Rules for Women!   Leave a comment

thY7ZQJQMK

Every guy loves ogling beautiful women and that includes me.   It’s been that way forever and I don’t see it changing any time soon.  Woman claim to dislike being stared at but do they really mean it?  Victoria Secret’s success has made that claim a little less believable. I’ve had them try to tell me that they wear makeup, revealing clothing, and expensive hair styling just to look good for other women.  Do you buy that? Not a chance.  They want to be stared at, whistled at, and ogled just as much as the men enjoy doing it.  It’s that famous “dance” that the sexes do in a age old mating ritual.  If you look good then your choice of mates increases exponentially.

I must say that it’s a fine line for a woman to walk.  If you get too revealing you look like a slut.  Most guys looking for a serious relationship wouldn’t be drawn to the slutty woman but also wouldn’t hesitate making the occasional booty call to one after a night of drinking and increasing horniness. What most women don’t seem to get is the desire by many men for an attractive, well behaved, and friendly woman who sheds those attributes upon entering the bedroom and turns into a sex crazed slut.  I know it isn’t rally fair to all of you women but unfortunately it remains true.

There’s a rule of thumb you’ve probably heard, KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid”.  Over the years I’ve developed five simple and easy rules for women to help them have a modicum of success in attracting a possible long term mate.

Rule 1 – Look good but not too good. Just slutty enough to make his mouth water and to keep his fantasies percolating.

Rule 2 – Be flirty but not too dirty or off color.  Just a hint of the “bad girl” is usually enough to drive most men over the edge.

Rule 3 – Drink enough but don’t get sloppy drunk.  No one wants to have the woman they’re hoping to have sex with throwing up on them.  Don’t laugh, it’s happened to me.

Rule 4 – Lay off that constant stream of foul language except in the bedroom. Be coy at first and then turn into that bedroom slut he’s been hoping and searching and wishing for.

Rule 5 – You may be more sexually experienced than he is but don’t show off.  Save some of your better moves for later when he’ll thinks he’s the reason you’ve decided to do them.

I’ve always been partial to women who look good but not too good.  I love a woman who wears her hair long because I find long hair very sexy. It’s an old Victorian fantasy of mine where you spend a great deal of time peeling off layers of clothing and after all that work she  lets down her hair down and you’re good to go. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it.

“With the narrower silhouette, emphasis was placed on the bust, waist and hips. A corset was used to help mold the body to the desired shape.

th0A720188

“Skirts were supported by a hybrid of the bustle and crinoline or hooped petticoat sometimes called a “crinolette”. The crinolette itself was quickly superseded by the true bustle, which was sufficient for supporting the drapery and train at the back of the skirt.”

thI02MR16Q

“The Victorian Version of the J-LO look.”

Well back to topic. I’ve had dealings with a few women in my life and they’ve fallen into any number of different categories.  Beautiful, fugly, and all points in between.  Each one was a totally different experience, some good and some really effing bad.  They can try and deny their innate desire to attract men but down deep in their hearts they know its the truth.  They want a good man in a good relationship with kids, a dog, and the white picket fence.  After all of that they also want to be the biggest slut they can be in the bedroom and have a man who’ll appreciate it.

SURPRISE LADIES . . . THAT’S WHAT WE WANT TOO

06-25-2014 New Year’s Resolutions Mid-Year Update!   2 comments

thETB30T4D

A few days I ago my better-half and I were sitting in a local restaurant chatting up one of her co-workers.  During that conversation her friend casually asked me if  I’d made any New Year’s Resolutions. I can’t remember exactly why she asked but I answered with a yes.  Obviously she’s never read this blog because I post them every January for all to see.

We returned home and during the ride I decided to check the archives and do a mid-year review of my resolutions for 2014 just to see how I’ve been doing.  Let’s start with this one:

1.  Read five books a month.

So far I’m on track with this resolution even though I lost my Kindle reader on my trip to Texas.  Now that I’m able to once again read my Kindle books from three additional devices I should have no trouble successfully completing this one.

2.  Teach the grandson  one curse word per month once he begins talking.

I think I jumped the gun on this one because he has yet to start speaking clearly enough to begin cursing.  I may have to wait for 2015 to get this one accomplished.  This one is a big FAIL so far.

3.  Keep the number of F-bombs below 100 a week.

So far I’m succeeding on this one but just barely. For the year it will be too close to call since it’s difficult not to use my  favorite word at every opportunity.  The question isn’t using it too much, it’s having too many reasons to use it at all.  If people aggravated me less this one would be a snap.

thV6EQECYD

4.  Drink less brandy than last year but more than next year.

I’m doing well on this one thanks to my weight loss program.  I’ve pretty much given up drinking the hard stuff and have returned to sipping the occasional glass of wine.  Boring but healthier.

5.  Spend less than $300.00 at Dunkin Donut for the entire year ($25.00 per month).

Since we purchased the K-Kup coffee maker I’ve cut my Dunkin Donut spending by two thirds.  I can make excellent coffee at home now and not be forced to spend two dollars a cup elsewhere.  Hooray for me.

6.  Stop dancing naked near the picture window in the living room. It scares the neighbors if their complaints mean anything at all.

I seem to be failing miserably on this one.  I just can’t seem to keep my clothes on and may have flashed my new and smaller ass to the neighbors and a few lucky passersby. I’m trying to behave but I suspect this will be a FAIL once again.  One of my better-half’s resolutions is  to buy and install window coverings this year but I haven’t seen them yet. I wonder how much the neighbors will complain if they never get to see my ass again.

7.  Fight to my last breath to keep chickens and goats from becoming part of my life.

I’m crossing my fingers on this one for now.  The better-half has been putting serious pressure on me to get chickens and goats. The negotiations have progressed to where she’s agreeing to no goats if we can just get a few chickens.  My negotiating position has remained the same from the beginning – NO FREAKING GOATS OR CHICKENS.  For this year I will accomplish this resolution but I’m losing the battle little by little.

If I counted correctly, I’m keeping up with five of my seven resolutions but I suspect I may lose some ground during the remainder of 2014.  The road to hell really is paved with good intentions.

How are you doing with yours?

Do you even care?

Probably not!

02-06-2014 Stupid Questions = Stupid Answers   Leave a comment

All of my life I’ve been curious about things.  I suppose that was the trait that drew me to a career in investigations.  I hate having unanswered questions and when I find one it makes me a little crazy.  They stick with me until I can resolve the question with a logical answer.  I’ve also found over the years that there are thousands of questions that have no logical answers,  Some people might call them stupid but that doesn’t change the fact that they need to be answered.

Over time I’ve reviewed lists from others and made lists of my own with questions that no one  can or will answer.  Here’s a small collection of a few of them that will get you thinking a bit.  If you have answers let me know but  I’m willing to bet you won’t be any more successful than I’ve been.

Here goes nothing . . . . .

    • What’s another word for synonym?
    • Where are Preparations A through G?
    • Whose cruel idea was it for the word “lisp” to have an “s” in it?
    • Why are there flotation devices under airplane seats instead of parachutes?
    • Why are there interstate highways in Hawaii?
    • Why are toe nail clippers bigger than finger nail clippers?
    • Why do most cars have speedometers that go up to at least 130?
    • Why do they sterilize needles for lethal injections?
    • Why is it that when a person tells you there’s over a million stars in the universe you believe them, but if someone tells you there’s wet paint somewhere, you have to touch it to make sure?
    • Why is it good to be a Daddy’s girl, but bad to be a Momma’s boy?

  • Is it possible for someone to be a closet claustrophobic?
  • Why did kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
  • Why do people who only eat natural foods drink decaffeinated coffee?
  • Why is a women’s prison called a penal colony?
  • You know that little indestructible black box that is used on planes, why can’t they make the whole plane out of the same material?
  • Why do they put Braille dots on the keypad of the drive-up ATM’s? And secondly, way is it placed where the driver can reach it?
  • If you google “Google” will your computer get stuck in a loop?
  • Why do the walk signs only stay green long enough to allow pedestrians  to get to the middle of the street?
  • Why do people say heads up when you should duck?
  • What do you say when someone says you’re in denial, but you’re not?

  • Why do the numbers on a phone go one way and the numbers on the calculator go the other?
  • Why do British people never sound British when they sing?
  • Why is the name of the phobia for the fear of long words Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia?
  • What ever happened to an E grade? We have A,B,C,D,F but no E.
  • Why do people never say “it’s only a game” when they’re winning?
  • Did Adam and Eve have navels?
  • Did you ever notice when you blow in a dog’s face he gets mad at you?
But when you take him in a car, he sticks his head out the window!
  • How come Superman could stop bullets with his chest, but always ducked when someone threw a gun at him?
  • How come you press harder on a remote control when you know the battery is dead?
  • How is it possible to have a civil war?

  • If a chronic liar tells you he is a chronic liar do you believe him?
  • If an orange is orange, why isn’t a lime called a green or a lemon called a yellow?
  • If nothing ever sticks to Teflon, how do they make Teflon stick to the pan?
  • If superglue is so good, why doesn’t it stick to the side of the tube?
  • If you can’t drink and drive, why do you need a driver’s license to buy liquor, and why do bars have parking lots?
  • Why do hotdogs come in packs of 8 when hotdog rolls come in packs of 10?
  • Why don’t you ever see baby pigeons?
  • What happens if you get scared half-to-death twice?
  • What happens when you call a 1-800 number collect?
  • What should you do when you see an endangered animal that is eating an endangered plant?

All interesting questions but very few answers that make any sense at all.  Life can be so challenging at times.

02-05-2014 Journal Entry – What is funny?   Leave a comment

I’ve always felt I was the kind of person who had a really good sense of humor.  I love good jokes, limericks or just about anything that will make me laugh. I also enjoy making people laugh and I’ve always have at my beck-and-call any number of jokes, quips, and sayings that helped me do that.

Most of my really close friends over the years have been people with a well-developed sense of humor who weren’t afraid to laugh at themselves. I’m a big believer that self-deprecating humor is by far the best and I practice it myself on many occasions. I love humor but I hate the kind that’s used to embarrass or degrade anyone.

One of my biggest problems is my inability to remember jokes. I’ve had friends that after a few drinks could tell jokes for two hours without taking a breath. The more they drank the more jokes they remembered and the funnier they became. That’s what I call a damn party. Unfortunately those kinds of people are few and far between these days or so it seems.  Maybe it’s just me and I’m running in the wrong circles.

It also seems that a great many people claim to have little or no sense of humor. These are people that take themselves and their jobs way too seriously.  They wear their lack of humor like a badge of honor at times and I just can’t wrap my head around that kind of thinking. What I’m trying to say as gently as possible is that if you have no sense of humor you’re probably boring as hell and about as much fun to be with as getting an STD.

I’m always on the lookout for people who love to laugh. Those are the people I want in my life and to spend time with to enjoy some quick-witted repartee. People who take themselves too seriously are no fun and it’s double trouble when they’re relatives. I remember being told a long time ago that “you can pick your nose, you can pick your friend’s nose, but you can’t pick your relatives.” It remains true today.

So this morning as I was surfing the Net I discovered websites that were actually dedicated to what have been termed “unfunny” or “anti-jokes. What kind of person takes time out of their busy day and a great deal of time each week in maintaining and promoting a website that’s totally effing ridiculous. These are supposedly jokes that are so unfunny that they become funny. Statements like that  irritate the crap out of me and people making those statements must assume we’re all as dumb as they look.

Here are few samples of these anti-jokes and even after reading through hundreds of them, I just don’t see the point. Life is way too short to spend time with this nonsense. I’ll give you a few examples and then I’m going to walk away and never look back on this posting or their stupid web sites ever again.

  • Why did the boy drop his ice cream?
Because he was hit by a bus.
  • Roses are red,
    Violets are blue.
    I have a gun.
    Get in the van.
  • An Irishman walks out of a bar.
What’s green and has wheels?                                                                   Grass, I lied about the wheels.
  • A dyslexic man walks into a bra.
  • What would George Washington do if he were alive today?
Scream and scratch at the top of his coffin.
  • A horse walked into a bar. Several people got up and left as they spotted the potential danger in the situation.
  • What is the biggest lie in the entire universe?
” I have read and agree to the Terms of Service”
  • A duck walks into a bar. Animal control is promptly called and the duck is released in a nearby park.

Well, do you think they’re stupid and offensive or is it  just me.  Maybe they do appeal to you and if so,  you have my sincerest sympathies.  I need laughter in my life from humor that is funny. It can be dark and morbid and still be hilarious.  But to quote one of my favorite comedians, Ron White, “You just can’t fix stupid”.

If your experiences in life are anything like mine have been there’s always someone available to offer advice, both good and bad.  Usually without you even asking.  Every one thinks they’re some kind of philosopher and never hesitate to show you just how smart they think they are.  It can be annoying as hell but every once in a while the proverbial blind man can find that pearl of wisdom.  Unfortunately you’ll probably be forced to listen to a few dozen inane and stupid statements to get to the one that would really mean something.

My father and grandfather’s had an endless supply of what they thought were inspirational messages. “Don’t pee or spit into the wind.” and “Don’t tug on Superman’s cape.” immediately come to mind.  A special thanks to Jim Croce for supplying my Dad with that one.

I began looking around the Net for more material on this subject but was soon overwhelmed with possibilities.  Some of the following messages and quotes, and thoughts came from celebrities, politicians, and as always my favorite, Anonymous.  I’ve removed the names of the authors because it the message that counts not who wrote it.  You should be able to figure a few of them out if you give it some thought.  Here we go.

  • “Some days you’re the dog, some days you’re the hydrant.”
  • ”The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.”
  • ”It’s hard to make a comeback when you haven’t been anywhere.”
  • ”Your garbage disposal eats better than 30% of the people in this world.”
  • ”Isn’t having a smoking section in a restaurant like having a peeing section in a swimming pool?”
  • ”Never do card tricks for your poker buddies.”
  • ”To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research.
  • Beware of the toes you step on today. They could be attached to the ass you may have to kiss tomorrow.”
  • “Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That’s relativity.”
  • “The only normal people are the ones that you don’t know very well.”

  • “What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.”
  • “If you talk to God, you are praying; if God talks to you, you have schizophrenia.”
  • “A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.”
  • “If you want to leave footprints in the sands of time, don’t drag your feet.”
  • “Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.”
  • “The harder you fall, the higher you bounce.”
  • “I prefer to be a pessimist; it makes it easier to deal with my inevitable failure.”
  • “Who is more foolish? The fool or the fool that follows him?”
  • “To be ignorant of one’s ignorance is the malady of the ignorant.”
  • “A boy can learn a lot from a dog: obedience, loyalty, and the importance of turning around three times before lying down.”

  • “If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito.”
  • “Life in Lubbock, Texas, taught me two things: One is that God loves you and you’re going to burn in hell. The other is that sex is the most awful, filthy thing on earth and you should save it for someone you love.”
  • “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are right.”
  • “Never test the depth of the water with both feet.”
  • “Don’t be irreplaceable. If you can’t be replaced, you can’t be promoted.”
  • “If you lend someone $25 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.”
  • “Experience is something you don’t get until just after you need it.”
  • “The difference between erotic and kinky is that one uses a feather, the other uses the whole chicken.”

Pick a few out that you like and memorize them.  That way when you’re  philosophizing for others you’ll have something to impress them with.  You do know we all do it, all of the time, Right?

01-27-2014 The New Senior Enlistment Program   3 comments

I’m a former Vet who is now in his sixties and I fondly remember most of my service time both in the United States and overseas. I received the following email from my nephew in Texas, also a former Vet, and it made me laugh out loud.  The fact that some of it makes good sense is beside the point.  I did a little editing to clean it up some and here it is.  I’m considering sending a copy to Mr. Obama.  He’s always looking for a good program or two to shove through Congress.  I use the terminology “shove through” in the most respectful way, of course.

Send to All Vets over 60 Years Old

I‘m over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I’m too old to track down terrorists. You currently can’t be older than 42 to join the military. They’ve got the whole thing ass-backwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they should be sending us old guys. You shouldn’t be able to join a military unit until you’re at least 35.

Researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven’t lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. “My back hurts! I can’t sleep, I’m tired and hungry”, we’re impatient and maybe letting us kill a few assholes  that desperately deserve it will make us feel better and shut us up for a while.

An 18-year-old hates getting up before 10 a.m while us old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell.  Besides, like I said, “I’m tired and can’t sleep and since I’m already up, I may as well be up and killing some of those fanatical S-O-B’s.”

If captured, we couldn’t spill the beans because we’d forget where we put them.  In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys. We’re used to getting screamed and yelled at and we’re used to soft food. We’ve also developed an appreciation for guns. We’ve been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house and away from all the screaming and yelling.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course as well.  I’ve been in combat and have never seen a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor have I ever done any pushups since completing basic training.  Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy too.  I’ve never seen anyone yet who could outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He’s still learning to shave, to start up a conversations with pretty girls and he has yet to figure out that a baseball cap has a brim used to shade his eyes, not the back of his head. These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them into harm’s way.

Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten cowardly terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple of million pissed off old farts with bad attitudes and automatic weapons coming towards them.  A gang of old mean men who know their best years are already behind them.  Look out.

P.S.  How about recruiting Women over 50 especially those in menopause. You think men have bad attitudes,  OMFG. If nothing else, put them on border patrol, they’ll have it secured the first night.

Yikes!

A long time ago in a blog that is now far, far, away I posted a four part list of the one hundred things I hated the most.  I spent a lot of time compiling that list and after posting it I went on about my life.  I never thought much more about it until yesterday when I spotted a few websites indicating everyone is hating something these days.  After reading through almost a hundred lists I had an epiphany.  All of a sudden I seemed like the calm, reserved, and thoughtful person and the rest of the world appears populated by a new generation of haters.  Some how I’d been dropped very far down the list of haters and that pissed me off a little.

I took a sampling of a few things that seem to show up on many of the lists including my own.  I’ll list a few to give you an idea exactly what I’m talking about.

Know-It-All’s
People Who talk Over You
Google Obsessed People
People Who Don’t Get Sarcasm

Some of those items are funny, some seem to make good sense but most are just ho-hum or so it seems to me.  Since “I HATE” being left behind I thought it would be cool if I brought my list back from the archives, updated it a bit, and send it your way.  After going through that process I discovered that I’ve  mellowed a great deal in the intervening years and my list has shrunk to only 52 items.  I was forced to revaluate the old list with the eye of a retired person.  Many things that used to piss me off no longer bother me at all.  It’s all just slightly amusing to me at this point in time.

So, here’s my newly revised list.  It’s a very cathartic process doing a large list like this, you should try it yourself.  Don’t be afraid, no one will really HATE you for doing it.  Just don’t use any real names and your good to go.  So here I go.
